| Despite its quaint size and
appearance, Kitchen Little -- just a short walk
from the Mystic Seaport Museum and the Mystic Marine Life
Aquarium -- did not escape the eyes and palates of
renowned food writers, Jane and Michael Stern.
They featured the restaurant in the November,1997 issue
of Gourmet Magazine, and more recently,
Connecticut Magazine, and USA Today. The Sterns were so enamored by Flo Klewins clear broth clam chowder with onions and potatoes, that they had to edit themselves to make sure they included some discussion of Flos original and delectable breakfasts. "Ever since that story, Ive been swamped for lunches, Most of the locals know us because of breakfast. Now lunch is getting to be a big thing," Flo says. |
This Is Where You Sit. Belly up to the counter and pull up a stool if you want that New England Diner feeling. Or enjoy the country inn atmosphere at one of the tables in the dining area. But if you really want to take advantage of everything Kitchen Little has to offer, you have to sit at the picnic tables on the back deck. Enjoy the sunshine or sit in the shade. Whether youre in between tourist stops, just got out of the car, or are winding down at the end of a fun filled day, youll be instantly refreshed by the Mystic River Breezes. |
This Is What You See From the garden
setting on the patio, you have an exhilarating view of
the Mystic River, |
And You Can Eat Here Too! Flo combines her by-the-sea upbringing, and her proximity to the best seafood suppliers in New England with her love of breakfast to create delectable dishes that she calls A.M. Eggstasty. Like the Mystic Melt: crabmeat and melt-in-your-mouth cream cheese scrambled with two eggs, served with raisin toast. Flo is equally creative with vegetables, meats, and cheeses, like number 11 on the Kitchen Little menu: The Portuguese Fisherman. Spicy hot scrambled eggs, chourico, linguica, peppers, onions and jalapeno cheese in a zesty sauce served with a Portuguese English muffin. Number 14 is her California Benedict: Fresh asparagus, crab meat, and poached eggs layered atop a toasted English muffin and crowned with our own Hollandaise sauce. For the health conscious eater Kitchen Little offers the Heart Healthy omelet: One fresh egg yolk and three egg fresh whites with herbs, fresh spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and carrots, with dry health nut toast. The low cholesterol eggs can be incorporated into any omelet on the menu. Of course you will find the regulars; bacon, sausage, Monterey Jack cheese, home fries, red potatoes, mushrooms and onions. But dont be surprised to find in unique dishes that will make you trip to Mystic totally worth it. What could be better?... uh lunch! Start with the clear broth chowder, and proceed to the entrees from Stoningtons local seafood fleet, or from the farm and garden. The choices are all yours. Fresh Whole belly clams, clam strips, clam rolls; Fresh Scallop rolls, fish filets, or white Albacore tuna, to name a few. All of Kitchen Littles burgers are made with a half pound of extra lean ground beef. Kitchen Little also offers fresh Caesars salad, green salad with carrots and tomato, grilled chicken breast, veggie roll ups, and a satisfying childrens menu.
